Broken Pipe flood

Despite efforts, water continues to gush after pipe bursts in southwest Detroit By Robert Allen Detroit Free Press Staff Writer

Water continues to flow in a southwest Detroit neighborhood, where flooding from a broken water main swamped cars and turned a street into a river.”We’ve had a hard time,” said Darryl Latimer, deputy director of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.

Crews had to locate the pipe then had to shut off two of three valves in the 30-inch water main at McKinley and Buchanan streets, decreasing the rate of water loss but not quite ending it. Motorists are advised to stay away from the area from that intersection south to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, because of flooding. Multiple roads are closed in an area spanning eight to 12 blocks.
